LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTHORITY RATES AND TAXES IN NIGERIA
One of the challenges small businesses face today is in handling Government’s revenue agencies and collectors. It is even more frustrating that there is little information available when it comes to the levies and taxes that are due to the third arm of Government, i.e. The Local Government. Most people find out when they get slammed with a demand notice and penalty.
To survive as a small business in Lagos State, Nigeria, it is very important that you get yourself conversant with the duties and obligations of your business to the third arm of Government.
The Lagos State Government on 12th July 2010, passed the approved Levies for Local Government Council (LGC or LGA) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) into law. The law is to be cited as Local Government Levies (Approved Collection List) Law, 2010 (“the Law”). The Law is enacted to regulate the administration of and unify the levies and taxes collected by LGCs and LCDAs within Lagos State (“the State”).
See below a schedule of Taxes and rates due to Local Government Authority. It is advisable to contact experts in the field so that they can provide you with more information and advice you properly on your available options.
